A short story about us

Founded in 1947 in Delta, Alabama, Wakefield Farms began as a small family homestead with a simple passion for raising healthy, beautiful poultry. What started with a modest backyard flock has grown through three generations of dedication, hard work, and a deep respect for heritage farming traditions.
Over the decades, our family has remained committed to preserving rare and historic poultry breeds, focusing on birds listed on endangered and conservation watch lists throughout the United States. We believe these breeds are more than livestock — they are an important part of agricultural history worth protecting for future generations.
Today, Wakefield Farms proudly raises breeds such as Black Copper Marans, Ameraucanas, Vorwerks, Lakenvelders, and other rare poultry known for their beauty, hardiness, and exceptional egg quality. Every bird we raise is cared for with the same values our family started with nearly 80 years ago: quality over quantity, ethical breeding practices, and a true passion for poultry.
From our farm in Alabama to families and farms across the country, we are proud to provide carefully selected hatching eggs and chicks while continuing the legacy that began in 1947.
At Wakefield Farms, preserving rare breeds isn’t just our business — it’s our family tradition.
